  • 28/Nov: Robotics Team from Juan Fernandez earns first place in Research Project at First Lego League and Classifies for National Competition! For the second consecutive year, the robotics team from Colegio Robinson Crusoe competed with 23 teams from Santiago in the First Lego League challenge (http://www.firstlegoleague.cl/) with the support of Fundacion Alexander Selkirk (www.fundacion-selkirk.org).

First Lego League --a worldwide partnership between FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and The LEGO Group-- helps young people to discover the fun in science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge, and valuable employment and life skills. In this year's challenge --themed the Food Factor -- teams were required to build, test, and program an autonomous robot to solve a set of Food Safety missions. They also researched, developed, and shared their innovative food safety solutions with the judges.

This year, the island team --Crusoe Bots 2.0-- placed 1st in the "Research Project" portion of the competition with a presentation on lobster (one of the island's leading products), coming in 4th overall and qualifying for a spot in the national final to be held December 3rd.

    Buena suerte, Crusoe Bots!

We at Fundación Alexander Selkirk are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in the recent airplane accident on Juan Fernandez. While the loss of close friends is disheartening, we remain committed to our efforts and seek to redouble them in their memory.
